I'll be heading back to West this week. Fishing around the Space Coast was spotty for me this season. We had a handful of good days, but lots of wind, angling pressure and spooky (if not downright rude) redfish. Wind is good for shrimping and I got out about 20 times this winter looking for them. Our best night was 3.5 gallons, with a few 1-2 gallon nights. Surf fishing was hit or miss depending upon wind as well. I spent a good bit of time working with Willie who is cute as he can be and coming along well. Word from West Yellowstone is a 70% snowpack and a early spring. Chances are really good that upon my arrival, spring will end and winter will teach me to try and avoid it. There's plenty of water in Hebgen , so the Madison should fish well, but there are fears that mid to late summer fishing on the areas freestone rivers may get tough as water temps rise. Looking forward to getting back and seeing everyone, Pat. |

We'll be heading back to Montana in the middle of May. This winter's fishing was excellent. Charlie and I made it a point to fish only on sunny weekdays with little or no wind. With ideal conditions and found good numbers of happy, eager redfish. Word from west Yellowstone is that they had a "real winter" again. Snowpack is around 110%, and flows out of Hebgen dam are already over 1000 CFS. We'll have great flows all summer and likely some extended heavy flows and runoff early season. The last time we had water like this was 1997. I picked up a puppy this winter. Willie is a 5 month old German Shorthair pointer. He's coming along well, I cant wait until October.
